5th Element is driven by coffee. It's what we do and what we love. Our passion begins with what nature creates and the farmer cultivates. We choose an optimal roast for each coffee, a profile unique to that batch to bring out the natural flavors and notes of each coffee. We're dedicated to Direct Relationship Coffee: a partnership with the farmers at origin to ensure each crop is hand-selected, the growing process is environmentally sound, and that workers are treated well and paid a fair wage. 5th Element has personal relationships with each farmer, visiting the farms throughout the year and collaborating to bring you the finest coffee in El Salvador.

2011 World Barista Champion

Alejandro Mendez, 2011 World Barista Champion, chose Madison to launch his first venture in the United States because he "wanted to do this project with someone who shared my passion for coffee and in a city that appreciated the concept of farm to table and farm to cup," he says. After winning the World Barista Championship, he traveled the globe for the next year sharing, learning, and applying what he knew about his craft. Alejandro, along with co-owner Todd Allbaugh and his long-time Salvadoran friends Silas and Nelson Valle, launched 5th Element Coffee in June of 2015, dedicated to providing the finest Salvadoran coffees to the people of Madison. Alejandro continues to travel the globe giving seminars and sharing his knowledge of coffee and origin and divides his time between El Salvador and Madison.
